What to Expect

Tesla's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. Tesla’s Finance Analytics team sits at the intersection of financial analysis, business intelligence, data engineering, and data science to support this mission by converting raw data into actionable insights. The Finance Analytics Data Scientist is a generalist supporting full-stack data science projects that help reduce total cost of ownership and make safe, energy efficient Tesla vehicles an option for more people. Main initiatives in support of these goals are credit risk modeling, payments analytics, used car pricing, driving safety, and enhancements to data science infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

  • Data engineering – developing feature and model monitoring pipelines using SQL, Python and open-source tools, such as Airflow
  • Exploratory analysis – answering business questions using data, exploring ways to improve models and products, visualizing and presenting results
  • Features engineering and model development – helping to build new features and models by enhancing existing pipelines using Python and open source ML libraries
  • Model production – working with engineering to integrate models into products and to support models in production with robust monitoring, ensuring all model artifacts and code are reviewed and version controlled
  • Implementation – working with engineering and business stakeholders to build strategy around developed data science solutions

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantitative Field (Statistics, Math, Economics, Physics, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience in roles related to data science, statistics, or machine learning
  • Experience with applying statistics and machine learning methods to solve business problems
  • Ability to self-start and self-direct work in an unstructured environment, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and approaching new problems
  • Excellent problem-framing, problem solving and project management skills and ability to change direction quickly while balancing competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively understand business problems and communicate analysis results to various audiences at different technical levels
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python, utilizing open-source libraries for machine learning, statistical modeling, visualization, and data processing, experience in building and supporting web applications using frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, and Streamlit

Expected Compensation

$84,000 - $306,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
