We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Product Support and Logistics Division as a Data Scientist.

The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

The Parts Inventory Collaboration (PIC) team is committed to delivering high performing production systems and efficient, accurate, secure, and accessible data to support analytics needs across Caterpillar and Dealers. We are looking for a talented and motivated Data Scientist to join the Systems team within the PIC organization.

What You Will Do:

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for assisting with monthly reporting metrics, performing deep-dive data analysis, supporting the PIC Data Analytics Suite platform as a view owner and architect, and other assigned tasks. Specific job duties include (but not limited to):

  • Ownership of multiple PIC Data Analytics Suite reporting views; responsible for documenting changes and enhancements through FRD authoring, executing test scripts, and validating the output once the technical development is complete.
  • Primary owner of a shared group inbox for the PIC DAS platform responsible for monitoring, responding to inquiries, and sending communications to a large audience.
  • Data governance owner responsible for completing yearly access audits for the PIC DAS platform.
  • Assisting with other testing that may include LIS release items, major and minor releases, and PDI related testing.
  • Support On Time In Lines (OTIL) and service reporting by performing complex, deep-dive analysis.
  • Interface with a wide variety of groups including leadership teams, LIS team, global account managers, and dealer facing groups.
  • Directing the data gathering, data mining, and data processing processes in huge volume; creating appropriate data models.

What You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Business Statistics: Knowledge of the statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Job-related experience
  • Previous inventory management background and knowledge
  • Experience in PIC or Cat parts systems or data
  • Power BI, Power Automate, and/or Snowflake experience
