Intern, Data Science, Disease Prediction

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As Bayer Crop Science's Digital Farming arm, we deliver sustainable digital solutions using the latest agronomic science, data science, engineering, and real-world farming experience. With groundbreaking technologies like Climate FieldView and our ForGround regenerative agriculture platform, our team is a part of some of the most important advancements in ag.

Digital Farming at Bayer is looking for a Data Science intern to join our team. We are seeking a highly motivated graduate-level student with a strong background in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches. As part of our team, you will help develop methodology to build predictive agronomic models incorporating key data layers such as soil, vegetation, water resources, weather, environmental characteristics, and crop yield by leveraging the latest in data science, geospatial analytics, and remote sensing tools. If you are interested in applying your skills in data to help farmers, we would love to talk to you!

  • Develop/validate/refine predictive models by corroborating with ground truth data
  • Mine massive datasets of spatial science, remote sensing, or other data types and perform large-scale data analysis to extract useful agriculture business insights
  • Identify actionable insights, suggest recommendations and influence the direction of the business by effectively communicating results to cross functional groups

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks someone who possesses the following:

Required qualifications

  • Pursuing a MS or PhD degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Quantitative Genetics, Machine Learning, Physics, or related technical field from an academic institution
  • Experience in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Python, scikit-learn, and SQL

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • A drive to understand and derive meaningful insights from data and results
  • Experience with Machine Learning and Statistical Models
