As a UX Data Science Design Intern You Will…

As an Oracle Design UX Intern, you will join a cohort of creative young professionals in our Bay Area and Seattle offices. Throughout the 12-week internship program, you will receive guided mentorship and participate in boot-camp style workshops. Through hands-on participation in group projects, you will deepen your knowledge and practice new skills interacting with a variety of design fields including Strategy & Innovation, User Experience Design, User Research, Product Management, Product Development, and more.

We are seeking to grow the data science capabilities with forward-thinking and diverse interns with exceptional technical ability. This is an exciting role that will stretch your knowledge and curiosity, while at the same time is a phenomenal opportunity to learn new skills and work within an unusually hard-working, global community at Oracle.

What You’ll Bring: (Objective Minimum Qualifications)

To be considered for an internship position with Oracle Design, you must possess the Objective Minimum Qualifications below. Please ensure that your application clearly indicates that you meet these qualifications either on your resume and/or by uploading additional documents such as a transcript.

  • Current undergraduate junior-year student or graduating senior in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related area of study.
  • Strong academic achievement.
  • Strong interest in technical area of study and AI.
  • Available full-time, 40 hours per week during the work week (typically 9am-5pm) from May-August 2024, or June-September 2024
  • Attend a university in the US
  • Able to obtain work authorization in the US in 2024

  • Have deep empathy and a passion for understanding people, uncovering their values and unspoken needs, and designing solutions with these values and needs at the heart of it all
  • You may have learned your craft through formal training in school or passion projects and hobbies. For most candidates, it is a combination of both.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency with SQL and Python or R
  • Fluency with data processing packages (e.g., pandas, tidyverse, dplyr)
  • Passion for User Experience (UX) Research and an understanding for why UX is important for business.
  • Read in and write files (e.g., .txt, .csv, .json, .parquet, .pkl, .xlsx, etc.) using a programming language
  • Wrangle data / clean up datasets. For example, removing outliers for a performance time analysis.
  • Able to glean descriptive statistics about a dataset (i.e., the Shape of the Data)
  • Able to produce clean, informative visualizations to clearly communicate research insights.
  • Able to work with large datasets using SQL, Spark, PySpark, Scala.
  • Basic understanding in working in a coding environment and passionate about learning how to use a programming language to work with big data.
  • Experience working with time series data (e.g., click history logs, eye tracking logs)
  • Front-end web design & development (Nice to have)
  • Experience creating/working with Chrome Extension Tools (Nice to have)

Data Scientist Intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Work on multiple stages of data science projects, including data pipeline, aggregation, feature engineering, modeling, and visualization.
  • Develop models to build solutions to tackle real-world business problems.
  • Interact with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments.
  • Communicate your analysis findings to product, service, and business managers.
  • Takes initiative with understanding purpose of project and how results will impact design and development.
  • Asks clarifying questions when talking with collaborators. For example, the ability to operationalize, "Understand how people are using our product."
  • Ability to contact others to get access to certain datasets.
  • Plan a project with achievement updates so that collaborators agree with respect to 1) the progress of a project and 2) what certain findings are.

What you will learn as a UX Data Scientist Intern:

  • You will learn how to analyze and produce insights from very large datasets detailing user behavior in cloud applications.
  • You will learn important metrics and KPIs that are used by enterprise companies to evaluate the usability of their products at scale.
  • You will learn how to work with a team of other data scientists to provide comprehensive insights that are impactful to Oracle.
  • You will learn how the design of your charts can be critical when it comes to providing impact with collaborators.
  • Along with your resume, please share your project examples of data science-related work you’re most proud of. Highlight your ability to work with teams, think outside of the box, think strategically, and communicate through a visual medium. These examples can be pulled from school projects, passion projects, or from any other previous work experience.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range: from $18.99 to $48.00 per hour; from $39,500 to $99,840 per annum.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
