The Community You Will Join:

We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join the Marketplace data science team. The Marketplace data science team aims to create a welfare-maximizing marketplace that balances guest and host needs. We do this by designing cancellation and fee policies, building models to power personalized pricing and insights tools for hosts, and building fundamental marketplace intelligence to better match hosts and guests.

The Difference You Will Make:

We are looking for an experienced data scientist to help design our marketplace with a particular focus on cancellations.

A Typical Day:

  • Design the future of the cancellation policy ecosystem for our hosts and guests.
  • Build causal and ML models.
  • Build framework and design experiments to help trade off bookings, cancellations, CS tickets among many metrics to consider.

Your Expertise:

  • 8+ years industry experience in a quantitative analysis role.
  • Background in economics, statistics and experimentation or acquired deep knowledge in this area.
  • Understanding of ML lifecycle best practices (eg. training/serving, feature engineering, feature/model selection, labeling, A/B test).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to cross functional partners of varying technical levels.
  • Ability to translate complex findings and results into a compelling narrative.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and drive technical and impactful roadmaps for the business, and lead seamless execution of it.
  • Strong fluency in Python and SQL, experience with Tensorflow, PyTorch, Airflow and data warehouse.

Preferred Expertise:

  • Ph.D. in Economics or related field.
  • Experience in cancellation policy design is a plus.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Pay Range

$185,000—$245,000 USD
