Job Summary:
The Research Associate Data Scientist participates in biomedical research projects using programming, data - mining, statistics, machine -learning, and visualization techniques to develop, evaluate, and/or apply algorithms and software for data analysis. Responsibilities include querying databases, data processing, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, deploying production models, and communication of scientific findings via peer reviewed publications and scientific conferences. Writes clean, performant, reusable code managed on GitHub to perform repeatable analyses and to train and deploy models to multiple environments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the development, evaluation, and/or application of computational and statistical methods including artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and software for the analysis of biomedical data.
- Assists with the presentation and communication of scientific results through laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Creates database-to-deployment pipelines for models using the necessary programming languages (primarily R, Python, SQL).
- Creates sustainable data science infrastructure and adheres to data analysis/machine learning best practices.
- Performs exploratory data analysis to gauge the need for or appropriateness of advanced analytical methods.
- Works with senior or lead data scientists and principal investigators to identify areas where data science can best be applied to answer biomedical research questions.
- Tests and validates code to ensure robustness of data applications with version control through GitHub.
- Manage data collection from human subjects in both lab and field environments.
- Apply post-processing analysis methods to 3D motion capture data.
- Create tools, algorithms, and dashboards for data analysis in research initiatives, and construct SQL queries for project databases.
- Utilize Python to handle, process, and summarize diverse and voluminous datasets; employ statistical software like PRISM, R, or SAS for data organization, cleansing, analysis, and translate findings into visual and written summaries.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with basic laboratory electronics and apparatus, including accelerometers, strain gauges, triggering devices, and sensor connectivity.
- Support in the selection and acquisition of lab equipment; maintain and operate research-related lab machinery.
- Implement machine learning algorithms specific to orthopaedics
- Assist with developing peer-reviewed publications, and dissemination of work at conferences.
- Employ SQL to efficiently query such as joins, window functions, and common table expressions to combine different data from EHR.
- Utilized Python to apply natural language processing and regular expressions, enhancing the data refinement process.
- Creates and maintain code stored on GitHub for version control, Follow coding best practices with clear naming, comments. Ensure code is portable, reusable, scalable.
- Developed a data analysis pipeline for sensor data.
- Analyzes datasets including joint angle, Euler and quaternion transformations, and mechanical testing data such as stress-strain and cyclic loading
- Handles data from multiple custom sensors.
- Bridge biomechanics and data science, enhancing research queries.
- Utilize unique expertise to support principal investigators.
- Design experimental setup.
- Manage data collection processes.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, machine learning, applied mathematics, econometrics, statistics, engineering, physics, or related discipline.
Experience:
- Experience programming at an intermediate skill level with a high-level programming language such as R or Python. College projects may be acceptable.
- Experience programming at a basic to intermediate proficiency level in SQL

Base Pay: $78,400.00 - $133,100.00
