Job Summary
The Trading Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing data-driven strategies to optimize trading activities and enhance profitability. Assists in the development of a digital strategy to support the Asset Backed Trading program.
Market analysis and Modeling:
Studies market fundamentals and analysis and gathers related data to build predictive models to forecast price movements, supply-demand dynamics, and other key indicators. Develops, manages and monitors data models and systems that support market point of views. Identify risks and opportunities that are key drivers to CITGO profitability. Develops an understanding of optionality around physical trading/pricing around the refinery system.
Model Development and Testing:
The Data Scientist will be responsible for leveraging large, complex datasets to gain an objective view of commodities markets. Research and improve trading signals which can be deployed in different portfolios.
Experience in developing and back testing different trading strategies / models in a trading environment. The candidate will conduct experiments and insert Machine Learning (ML) models with datasets to integrate and expand models.
Strong coding python and knowledge of different libraries like NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, VectorB. Experience in building predictive models using Python. Experience is statistical modeling.
Contributes to improve and drive adoption of new software related to data systems, data analytics and data visualization tools. Builds a culture of innovation and digital transformation.
Execution and Monitoring:
Assists in the execution of the trading strategy under the supervision of the Lead Derivatives Trader. Entry of trades into the trading system and monitoring of position reports and PnL reports. Knowledge of financial derivative instruments like futures, swaps and options in the energy markets.
Minimum Qualifications
Degree:
- Bachelor’s Degree. Required.
- Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Information Systems/CS/Software Engineering preferred.
- Master’s Degree. Preferred.
The minimum number of years of job related experience required by this job is:
- A Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience or a Master’s Degree and 0 Years of experience.
List any specialized training or unique skills required:
- Must have Python and SQL.
- Experience modeling commodities in a trading environment and experience with time series and advanced statistics preferred.
- Must be a logical, economic thinker with the ability to apply analytical tools and techniques to transform data into actionable points-of-view.
- Exposure to physical and financial trading concepts preferred.
- Ability to work independently and remain highly motivated and self-directed.
Job Duties
- Utilize advanced statistical techniques to analyze large volumes of trading data to develop predictive models to forecast price movements, supply-demand dynamics, and other key indicators.
- Design, Produce and evaluate predictive models and trading strategies.
- Collaborate with trading teams in understanding market point of views and gather and analyze relevant data. Works with IT and other Commercial Data strategy team in the build out of data systems and models.
- Stay informed about global energy markets, industry trends and other developments that impact the energy markets.
- As needed will execute the financial derivatives positions required to facilitate hedges within the Supply group and across CITGO’s total energy price risks, consistent with corporate operating philosophy and objectives.
