What you'll do...
Walmart Global Tech Applied AI team is looking for a passionate Staff Data Scientist to join world’s largest retailer to shape the future of retail by working on various supply chain related problems. You will have the chance to leverage advanced machine learning and optimization methods to tackle a wide range of real-world problems, such as vehicle routing optimization, driver-trip matching, trip pricing, supply/demand forecast and time prediction, driver workload matching and so on.

What you'll do:
- Build production models on large-scale datasets to help Walmart transportation business use cases, such as transit and operations time prediction, pricing, driver matching and driver assignment time prediction by utilizing statistical modeling, machine learning and optimization techniques
- Build data pipeline from multiple sources and extract data insight with data exploration and visualization techniques
- Design, implement, productionize and deploy data science products with consideration of optimality and computation complexity
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including product, engineering, operations team to ensure that our data science product supports Walmart’s business objectives
- Explore and latest trends of machine learning and optimization techniques to come up with solutions for complex data challenges
What you'll bring:
- Masters in Statistics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering and Mathematics or other quantitative fields with 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Strong knowledge of machine learning, mathematical programming modeling and optimization
- Expertise in one or more areas among: Machine Learning – Classical methods/ Deep Learning/ Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, Statistics.
- Ability to write production grade code in programming languages, such as Python, R and Java, with understanding of algorithms and data structures
- Solid knowledge in advanced optimization algorithms and machine learning models, including model fit testing, tuning, and validation techniques. Impact of variables and features on model performance to Identify the model evaluation metrics. Apply best practice techniques for model testing and tuning to assess accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness for multi-stage models and model ensembles.
- Familiarity of common deep learning models
- Familiarity of model assessment and validation process; apply the best practice techniques for model testing and parameter tuning.
- Experience with SQL and databases
- Ability to translate business needs into analytical frameworks
- Capability of conducting independent research to keep track of latest development and trend in the industry and academia
- Experience with distributed systems and tools such as Spark, Hadoop, etc.
- Demonstrated production-level coding and programming abilities
- Experience of building large-scale Machine learning driven or optimization products
- Knowledge of understanding of business value and relevance of data and data enabled insights/decisions
- Knowledge of Analytics/big data analytics/automation techniques and methods; Business understanding; Precedence and use cases; Business requirements and insights. To translate/co-own business problems within one's discipline to data related or mathematical solutions. Identify appropriate methods/tools to be leveraged to provide a solution for the problem. Share use cases and gives examples to demonstrate how the method would solve the business problem.
