Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Information Technology Experiences (OneTech) organization is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Principal Data Scientist I for the Office of Data Science and Automation (ODSA), Data, Analytics, and Data Science department.

The primary responsibility of this role is to serve as a technical domain expert in AI and machine learning (ML), guiding machine learning architectural design decisions, developing, and reviewing models and application code, and ensuring high availability and performance of our machine learning applications.

Reporting to the Chief Data Scientist, the person in this role will support the ODSA’s objective to recast its relationship with business functions from a provider of technology to a business partner capable of innovating business practices through the delivery of technology services and data science.

What you’ll be doing

  • Drive the creation, delivery, and evolution of ML models and software components that enable state-of-the-art intelligent systems, collaborating with the Business, Data, Product, Architecture, Engineering, and Platform teams.
  • Lead large-scale AI and ML initiatives with customer needs in mind.
  • Leverage cloud-based architectures and technologies to deliver optimized ML models at scale.
  • Promote best practices in all aspects of the engineering and modeling lifecycles.

What you bring

  • Master’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a similar technical field experience.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive predictive analytics/machine learning and AI solutions in a production environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in major supervised learning and unsupervised learning models and algorithms
  • Experience programming with Python, PySpark, and/or Scala.
  • Experience with the full Machine Learning development lifecycle using modern technology in a business-critical setting.
  • Experience with database query languages.
  • Applied statistical experience, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc.

Added bonus if you have

  • Doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a similar technical field.
  • Working experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience partnering with technology peers responsible for data architecture and distributed computing infrastructure/platforms.
  • Experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud platforms.
