HYBRID: Qualified candidates within a reasonable commute of the hub locations listed below should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment, approximately one day per quarter, subject to change based on business need. Responsibilities
As a data scientist at State Farm, you will serve as a subject matter expert and consultant. Through this role you will share your knowledge and work to increase the use of analytics for decision making across the organization. Tasks you may experience in a typical day include (but are not limited to):
- Develop and validate advanced analytic models
- Provide input into and/or build datasets to support model development
- Collaborate with other team members on scoping solutions and project decision points
- Present on technical topics to peers, leadership, other stakeholders, including non-technical business partners
- Lead/mentor other data scientists, interns and other technical work teams
- Make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration and retention requirements, incorporating business requirements and knowledge of best practices
- Serve as a peer reviewer to other model development teams
- Work on complex problems of diverse scopes
- Establish and leverage a network of associates with business domain and data expertise
- Instill a business oriented mindset that drives the data science & research agenda
- Build & maintain a relationship with the open source community by creating and contributing to open source data science initiatives
Qualifications
Data Scientist Skills & Professional Required Experience:
- Completed Masters, other advanced degrees in an analytical field such as, statistics, mathematics, economics, data science, quantitative marketing, operations research, industrial engineering, etc.
- Experience modeling with unstructured data: NLP, computer vision
- Familiarity with experimental design concepts
- Strong technical skills in at least one of the following: Python, R, and/or SAS
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments: AWS, Linux or SQL
- Experience in building advanced analytical solutions using generalized linear models AND at least one of the following methods: time series analysis, cluster analysis, tree-based algorithms, neural networks
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholders at various levels and business areas
- For Colorado and Washington State residents (geographic differential may apply): Salary Range: $99,600 -167,812 | Potential yearly incentive pay up to 18% of base salary
- For California, New York, and CT residents (geographic differential may apply): Salary Range: $113,250 - $167,812 | Potential yearly incentive pay up to 18% of base salary
- For Hawaii residents: Salary Range: 90,600-134,250 | Potential yearly incentive pay up to 18% of base salary
- For Los Angeles candidates: Pursuant to the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories.
