Job overview.
The individual in this role will be responsible for helping Fetch continue to have best in class pricing and portfolio profitability in the industry. This teammate will be a member of a close knit actuarial team and will need to be adaptable wearing multiple hats in supporting various actuarial pricing initiatives. Time will be roughly evenly split between pricing modeling work and traditional actuarial pricing work.
The individual will leverage predictive analytics to improve the sophistication of our existing pricing models as well as build tools to monitor performance of our existing rating plans over time in regards to loss ratio, conversion rate, churn, and lifetime value. The individual will also support the development of filings and responding to regulatory objections in order to get regulatory approval associated with recommended pricing changes. The individual will also be involved in other special pricing projects as needed, such as, increased limit factors analysis, policyholder coverage utilization studies, and modeling impact of coverage language change proposals.
Responsibilities.
- Improving the risk segmentation sophistication of our rating plans
- Developing performance monitoring tools to monitor performance of our existing rating plans
- Developing tools to monitor rate level over time
- Writing SQL procedures to develop and maintain pricing and ratemaking datasets
- Developing price elasticity curves to forecast impact of rating changes on churn and conversion
- Assessing impact of rating changes on customer lifetime value
- Reviewing and monitoring portfolio profitability using existing BI tools to identify areas of improvement for our risk segmentation models
- Estimating impact of coverage and product changes on pricing
- Developing revised increased limit factors and deductible discount factors
- Forecasting impact of various member incentive programs on churn and lifetime value
- Investigating policy utilization trends by coverage
- Supporting rate filing work for our rating plans as needed
- Supporting rate indication work as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required skills.
- Passed at least four CAS/SOA actuarial exams passed (ACAS designation preferred)
- At least 4 years of experience working in an actuarial or data science P&C and/or Health insurance role
- 2 years of experience in an actuarial ratemaking and/or pricing modeling role is required
- Advanced knowledge of SQL is required
- Strong knowledge of R and/or Python is required
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel is required
- Advanced knowledge of generalized linear models (GLMs) is required
- Intermediate knowledge of elastic net GLMs, random forests, k-means clustering, and geospatial statistics is desirable
- The ability to review and evaluate data for quality, completeness, and reasonability is required
- Ability to apply initiative and judgment to define and perform tasks, sometimes complex, and sees the bigger picture
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Excellent team player; proven ability to apply innovative ideas and critical thinking
- Able to anticipate needs, innovate and flourish in a high-volume, fast paced environment
