Responsibilities
As a Principal Data Scientist Manager,
- You’ll be working with researchers, PMs and other product engineering teams, and managing a team of combining remote Data Scientists/data engineers, local Data Scientists/Data engineers to vision, design, develop and apply state-of-the-art methods/models within AI and machine learning to solve complex problems in efficiency, health and experience areas.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership: design, analytics/modeling, code reviews, development, quality assurance, observability, and live site. Uphold data engineering and data science best practices new methodologies, technologies, industry trends and open sources.
- Build relationships with partners within Microsoft to bring innovation to new and existing products. Act as an AI expert and thought leader, including the creation of vision/strategy, white papers, conference papers, blogs etc, and including presenting at conference, internal/external AI meetings etc.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity and disciplined data and software engineering practices to deliver business value, guided by data.
- Hire and retain top talent. Be a mentor for the people on your team and help them grow.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 12+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 10+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years people-management experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Data Science M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
