Machine Learning Data Scientist
Employment Information
At Leanpath, we are a group of diverse and passionate technologists, sustainability experts, culinarians, and analysts who come together to achieve our vision each and every day: to ensure a sustainable future by eliminating global food waste.
Food waste is one of the biggest global issues of our time. More than a third of the world’s food is wasted. And with global hunger and social inequities increasing, wasted food and resources is tragic, devastating our communities and our planet.
So how do you, as a machine learning data scientist, help to end food waste? You bring your skills to bear at Leanpath, a company who’s fighting food waste at its source. We start with the foundational premise that we manage the things that we measure. Measurement is the key to uncovering the data and insights we can leverage to prevent food waste from reoccurring, so it’s crucial that we make measurement as easy as possible for our users. That’s where you come in!
About the Role
We have an immediate opportunity for a data scientist specializing in machine learning to join our dynamic and growing technology team. This role involves developing and implementing machine learning algorithms, primarily for food classification via machine vision, managing large datasets, optimizing machine vision models, and driving innovation for AI-based food waste prevention solutions. The role is part of our machine vision team and will report to our VP of Product.
What You’ll Be Doing
In a nutshell, you’ll be playing a key role in delivering our next generation of tracking tools to our customers. More specifically, you’ll be…
- Leading the design and development of machine vision algorithms and models to classify food types using cameras and other sensors on IoT devices.
- Managing and analyzing large datasets, including images and metadata, to improve model accuracy and performance.
- Collaborating with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and other teams to integrate machine vision solutions into larger systems at scale.
- Providing insights and guidance on opportunities to improve the Leanpath platform with data science and machine learning.
- Keeping abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and data science, and proposing how they might be applied to our use cases, when applicable.
What You Bring to the Team
Beyond the experience outlined in the next section, we’re looking for someone with…
- A creative mindset and a desire to innovate using the latest technologies in the ML/machine vision space.
- Advanced skills in Python, R, TensorFlow, and other data science and machine learning tools. Experience working in GCP tools is a plus.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Flexibility and willingness to engage in various aspects of the data science and machine learning processes.
- A desire to be the point person on machine learning and data science applications across Leanpath products and tools.
Experience & Requirements
Even if you don’t completely check every box below, we’d love to hear from you!
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field with a focus on machine learning (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least 3 years of professional experience in a data science role with a focus on machine learning, preferably related to machine/computer vision applications.
- Experience with machine learning, neural networks, and image processing in a professional setting.
- Experience applying machine learning technologies for item classification, preferably with machine vision on IoT devices.
- Experience managing large image datasets and tuning machine vision models for accuracy and efficiency.
- Authorized to work in the US (required).
