Job Overview

Enterprise Data & Analytics team is growing Macy’s capabilities in support of our mission to be a data - led, customer centric company. This team will focus on accelerating impact from analytics, coordinating an enterprise-wide roadmap, and ensuring proper data governance, engineering, and management. As a member of the enterprise machine Learning team, you will help to execute projects to build profitable lifetime customer relationships by embedding data & analytics at the heart of everything we do. The team will work on productionizing analytics and algorithm integration and development for use in business cases and establish norms, standards, and a data-driven culture throughout the organization.

The Lead Data Scientist will join a best-in-class team in a fast-changing retail environment. They will design, develop, and implement advanced data science models for priority business use cases across the enterprise, such as online experience, marketing, merchandising, supply chain, finance, and store operations. As a Lead Data Scientist, you will work in the areas of feature engineering, deep learning, data insights and analytics. What you will do:

  • Thought leader in data science and analytics who can help the business define their business problem, create solutions to address it, plan and execute the implementation.
  • Blend of applied math, data science and engineering skills, proven track record of solving critical business problems through data science and strong analytical/quantitative and engineering skills.
  • Leadership: Promotes efficacy through monitoring, coaching & motivating subordinates, intervention, etc.
  • Staff and Career Development: Ensures staff development is in line with strategic organizational and departmental objectives.
  • Work with business stakeholders to define business requirements including KPI and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead research initiatives into state-of-the-art methodologies that will enhance current models and power future personalized models.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, ML engineers and Data Scientists in building real-time and batch machine learning pipelines that include data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, model validation, serving, and evaluating results of A/B test.
  • Staffing, Hiring, Selection: Assesses departmental staffing needs; actively participates in resourcing efforts.

Who you are:

  • Master’s Degree required (PhD preferred) with 5-8 years of work experience in the role’s relevant technologies and field of expertise.
  • Experience in leading teams and being a lead data scientist on large scale projects driving value for the business.
  • Familiarity with Agile, experience with Agile is a plus.
  • Python: Works with complex Python programming and maintenance across various platforms.
  • SQL: Provides insights into all standard features and facilities of the version of SQL used in-house.
  • Strong preference for programming experience in Spark framework and PySpark.
  • Strong preference for hands-on experience with Scikit-learn, Pandas, and at least one of the deep learning frameworks: PyTorch, Keras, or TensorFlow.
  • Understanding of modern approaches to computer vision problems is a plus (RESNet, transfer learning, Inception, etc.).
  • A plus to have working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (Big Query, Big Table, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, DataProc), real-time and batch processing.
  • Ability to effectively share technical information, communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Works with or leads others to re-prioritize work and reschedule commitments as necessary.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically to identify data issues and take actions to remediate
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs
  • Experience with different recommender systems (Sequential recommenders, Content recommenders, RL recommenders etc.), recommender frameworks (Ex: PredictionIO).

Communication Skills:

Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft reports and other communications, effectively present to management and internal and external business partners, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
