Requirements
It is an exciting time to join the Award-winning Data Science team at Freemavens. Due to recent successes, the business is keen to invest in an enterprising individual at the start of their journey into the Data Science field who has a passion for interrogating data and problem-solving.
In this role you would be an integral member of a small Data Science team, helping to deliver world-class solutions that answer the changing needs of our diverse client base, including FMCG, financial services, healthcare, and retail businesses.
The work is varied and interesting, from creating novel methodologies to answer business questions, to data gathering, modelling, and building out tools that help our Analytics team deliver their work.
As a Junior Data Scientist your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Working on 1 to 2 client projects at any given time, depending on size and complexity.
- Collaborating with the wider business to develop new methodological offerings or products.
- Collaborating with the rest of the Data Science team, contributing to the R&D pipeline and internal tools development.
WHAT YOU KNOW & DO
- Proficient knowledge of Python is required, as well as an in-depth working knowledge of Excel and Git Version Control.
- Data aggregation & cleaning: the ability to gather (via API and Web Scraping), manipulate, and cleanse data from a wide range of sources to enable further analysis.
- Analysis: the ability to undertake exploratory data analysis, such as trend decomposition, to understand the data landscape before moving on to more complex tasks.
- Insight application: the ability to demonstrate critical thinking when assessing client briefs, and understanding the role of data science in not only delivering what is required but also any possible value-add opportunities.
- Quality: the ability to write clean, replicable, and functional code that adheres to internal standards.
- Communication: the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders of varying levels of knowledge or experience of Data Science techniques and being able to describe harder statistical concepts to a broad audience.
- Time management: the ability to multi-task and manage your time effectively when spread between multiple projects, promptly flagging setbacks or delays where necessary.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- A degree in a quantitative field, or relevant Data Science experience.
- Experience in Machine Learning methodologies, including neural networks and gradient boosting decision trees.
- Experience building within the Flask web framework.
- Experience with using Virtual Machines, particularly in a Microsoft AZURE Basic knowledge of Linux.
- Experience with data visualisation techniques and libraries such as matplotlib, Plotly, or seaborn.
- Experience with image analysis or computer vision techniques.
