In this role you will generate and explore ideas and solutions to advance the quality and quantity of insight that can be delivered by scientific instruments, with a particular focus on the use of machine learning methods. This role is at the interface of natural/physical sciences, data science and computing. It will contribute to significant enhancements in the capabilities of the technologies used by scientists and analysts worldwide.
What are your responsibilities?
- You will apply your knowledge of science, machine learning, cloud computing and numerical modelling to solve problems related to the development of analytical instruments.
- You will explore approaches to gaining greater insight and performance from scientific measurements with a focus on machine learning and numerical modelling.
- You will create new ideas to deliver insight from data from scientific instruments, and to aid in the design of next-generation instruments.
- You will work with data from many sources, including its processing, cleansing, and verifying.
- You will present and share progress with different audiences.
- You will share your expertise with other team members in the business.
- You will prepare material to explain new products you develop in varied forms, including peer-reviewed publication, software, webinars and more.
What do you need to be successful in this role?
- You will be a creative problem solver, keen to understand how things work and build innovative solutions across scientific disciplines.
- You will have a degree or equivalent in any natural or physical science, mathematics, computer science or any other numerate discipline.
- You will have very good general knowledge of scientific measurement and computing. You will have used common data science and scientific computing toolkits, such as NumPy, Pytorch, scikit-learn, and have strong numerical modelling skills.
- You will have strong general knowledge of mathematics, statistics, machine learning methods and data exploration.
