We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.
Our flexible work benefit - Scribd Flex - enables employees, in partnership with their manager, to choose the daily work-style that best suits their individual needs. As an organization, we prioritize collaboration and intentional in-person moments to build culture and connection. For this reason, occasional in-person attendance is required for all Scribd employees, regardless of their location.
About theTeam and Role:
Scribd’s Business Strategy & Analytics Team solves problems and finds opportunities to deliver value to our millions of users. We collaborate across the organization to evolve the product, ensure the success of our business, and delight global users. This is the place for you if you’re a clear thinker & communicator who likes to take on big challenges, understand the nuance of user experience combined with a content acquisition strategy to make data informed decisions.
We are looking for a driven, innovative, and experienced Director of Data Science and Experimentation to be an advocate for our data in creating an impact oriented culture with stakeholders. To succeed, our analysis should be geared towards the insights that allow people to take actions. This will require you to understand what they need instead of what they ask for. In this critical role, you will deliver dat science products across the marketing, growth, content, and discovery spaces, and act as the product owner of our experimentation platform. We are looking for a leader who is comfortable helping end customers define vague spaces and demonstrating a deep understanding of customer needs and wants.
This Role Offers:
The opportunity to make a big difference: Scribd is different from other subscription companies both because of the breadth and depth of our content library as well as the extent of our organic global user base. We have a unique opportunity to help our subscribers find and enjoy a wide variety of media through the use of both proven and cutting edge technology, bringing high-quality content at a fair price to readers around the world.
You Will:
- Act as a strategic advisor to internal stakeholders to guide their selection of “metrics that matter.”
- Lead cross-functional efforts to bring together data from multiple data sources to create customer segmentations, measure the incrementality of marketing spend, predict customer success events, and attribute downstream impact to high value customer actions.
- Own the experimentation platform, creating a program of best practices around experimental design, self service, guardrails, and knowledge sharing.
- Develop optimization metrics or north stars that represent the customer action or behavior we want to drive in each Scribd brand for use in experimentation.
- Support a variety of stakeholders from marketing, payments, Core UX, growth, to Machine Learning and Discovery teams.
- Deliver high-impact, highly visible presentations around strategy, processes, metrics, and KPIs to senior and executive level management.
- Demonstrate grit and break down complex problems into actionable development plans.
- Recruit, hire, and develop world-class data science staff.
You Have:
- 10+ years working in data science, with 3+ years of direct report management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present proposals and vision to executive leadership.
- Strong cross functional capabilities and the ability to influence across product, marketing, finance, and more.
- Create analytical frameworks to measure team success: partner with cross-functional teams to define success metrics; create approaches to track the data and troubleshoot errors; quantify and evaluate the data.
- Player-coach: enjoys getting their hands dirty and thrives in the “player-coach” model by hiring A players, coaching and guiding them, while at the same time diving deep to deliver key results if necessary.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills with advanced knowledge of statistics and quantitative models and with hands-on technical capabilities: SQL mastery, fluency in Python and R (or other statistical analysis packages), and experience designing and analyzing advanced experiments and multivariate tests.
- Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.* Candidates for this role typically have a degree in Economics, Data, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline.
Ideally, you have:
- Experience in marketing incrementality measurement, including media mix modeling, geo lift tests, or other attribution methods.
- Demonstrated success in onboarding organizations to new experimentation software, managing a roadmap for data ingestion, metric development, and self service onboarding.
- Advanced degree in quantitative field. At Scribd, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range.
