As a Data Scientist, you will leverage data analytics and modelling techniques to improve overall operational performance and company financials. You will collaborate with stakeholders to define and measure KPIs in order to create actionable insights in a dynamically changing environment. You will combine your technical skills (computer science, mathematics) with business acumen to solve XPO’s most critical problems. What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Analyze and interpret large data sets to identify opportunities that will improve XPO’s operational and financial performance
- Partner with technology and business stakeholders to create and enhance processes, software applications, metrics and decision-making
- Serve as a subject matter expert in one or more facets of the operations
- Perform various analytics that range in complexity from descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive and cognitive depending on the project
- Apply Machine Learning, AI, statistical and/or optimization methods on an as needed basis
What you need to succeed at XPO:
At a minimum, you’ll need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or any related quantitative discipline, or equivalent related work or military experience
- 1 year experience in data science, operations research, or data analysis with a focus on advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, forecasting and optimization
- Experience in at least one programming language such as Python, R, SQL, SAS, Spark, Java, etc.
- Familiarity with machine learning and statistical methods
- Strong communication skills with a knack for explaining complex topics simply
It’d be great if you also have:
- A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or any related quantitative discipline
- 3 years of experience in data science, operations research, or data analysis with a focus on advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, forecasting and optimization
- Demonstrated examples of generating business insights that improved operations or financials
- Solid foundation of statistics (hypothesis testing, outlier detection, statistical inference & analysis)
- Applied supervised and/or unsupervised learning algorithms
