Alabama Power is seeking an initiative-taking and innovative Data Scientist to join our Marketing and Economic Development team. The successful candidate will ideally be able to create, enhance, and deploy statistical and analytical models to generate actionable insights that drive customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and business profitability. This role requires a blend of analytical rigor, technical prowess, and the ability to draw practical conclusions from data and communicating complex ideas in a clear and engaging manner.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the strategic direction and execution of data science initiatives within Marketing and Economic Development
  • Apply advanced statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and deep learning algorithms to solve complex business problems.
  • Develop and deploy machine learning models at scale, utilizing tools like Apache Spark, Databricks, and cloud platforms.
  • Interpret analytical results, generate actionable insights, and communicate findings to key stakeholders, including senior executives.
  • Lead end-to-end data science projects, including data collection, preprocessing, modeling, and deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with Data Management engineers to design and optimize scalable data management and curation strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise in data visualization, storytelling, and the interpretation of analytical results to drive business decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improved data-driven strategies and solutions.
  • Analyze internal and external data to shape a deeper understanding of our residential, commercial, industrial, and unregulated customers.
  • Serve as a liaison between cloud and on-prem data sources and analysts deploying low-/no-code solutions to extract data.
  • Function as a consultant to internal clients on how to use your analysis and present actionable recommendations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Econometrics, Engineering, MIS, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Progress towards or completion of a master’s degree or PhD in an analytical field is a plus.

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of professional experience in data and analytics, specifically marketing analytics.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency with one or more programming languages (SQL, R, Python)
  • Experience manipulating large datasets and databases with working knowledge of Hadoop, Databricks, or other big data cloud technologies.
  • Experience in developing and implementing AI/Machine Learning models.
  • Experience developing and utilizing visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Experience extracting and integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines for concurrent requests from different business teams.
  • Knowledge of the utility industry, data, systems, and procedures is a plus.
  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey data-driven recommendations to technical and non-technical clients.
