JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for modeling and analyzing complex organization-wide problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. Proficient at wrangling large amounts of data from disparate sources, creating and refining financial models, and have the ability to effectively communicate results. Turn data gleaned from tactical data munging into knowledge that can be used to make sound decisions.

Lead and maintain a coordinated working relationship with internal (IT, Accounting, Lending, Marketing) and external clients as required.

This position is held within the Marketing Group, however a significant number of projects will originate from other departments, such as Risk, Retail Banking, and Account Services, among other groups. An understanding of modern retail banking and how national economic factors influence the local financial markets is necessary to apply your data science expertise.

The ideal candidate has ample hands-on experience with a variety of data science techniques and programming tools including but not limited to machine learning, rule-based systems, regression modeling, descriptive and predictive analytics, Python, R, SQL and common dashboard technologies.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct advanced data analysis and complex algorithm design. Leverage vast amounts of data into actionable business insights.
  • Deliver strategic advanced analytic based solutions from design to deployment.
  • Apply advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple real-time decision systems for the credit union.
  • Develop innovative and effective approaches to solve analytics problems. Keep an attitude of continued self- improvement, be hungry to learn, and keep an eye on evolving technologies.
  • Take a proactive role in implementing modifications and refinements to existing reports and analysis in order to better meet research and analysis objectives.
  • Work with internal clients (e.g. IT, Accounting, Lending, etc.) in a lead role to identify business requirements and expected outcomes for research and data analysis needs.
  • With a solid understanding of financial services, provide effective strategic recommendations on data collection, integration, and retention requirements, as well as best practices on implementing a variety of data science and machine learning technologies.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate results, assumptions, concerns, and methodologies to technical and nontechnical audiences ranging from business subject matter experts to the executive management team.
  • Present information using data visualization techniques within Python, Excel and PowerPoint. Tableau a plus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complete required BSA & OFAC training annually.
  • Understand and adhere to BSA and OFAC policy and procedures.
  • Have an attitude of constant improvement, curiosity about financial services and the interplay of technology and customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in research and analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • Proficient with: machine learning, Python, SQL, predictive and descriptive statistics. For example: have a few favorite ML algorithms from scikit-learn package.
  • Ability to come up with solutions to loosely define business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and with fortitude of purpose.
  • Ability to work with occasional ambiguity with focus on continuous improvement and process evolution.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay Grade is M2. This position is eligible for discretionary bonus twice a year.

Targeted Base Pay $99,000 - $128,000
