Position Summary
NPTC Confectionery York is Nestlé’s leading centre for confectionery Research & Development, working in partnership with 3 development centres in Chile, China, and Ivory Coast. In York, we are a team of 170 amazing people from over 30 nationalities applying creativity and practicality to develop innovative concepts into industrialised products consumers love. Our objective is to lead confectionery innovation on product development, manufacturing, and packaging by continuously bringing new ideas, technical know-how, and scientific support. We champion technology mastership and support 50 confectionery factories around the world. We have a strong focus on inclusion and belonging and an active Wellness program.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Data Scientist who will play a key role in shaping our future projects across the Confectionery R&D. We rely on data to understand our scientific output, develop new products, systems and solutions and we need someone with the right skills and experience to help continue our digital journey!
A day in the life of a Data Scientist…
You will bring your data-driven experience coupled with your natural curiosity and creative mindset to leverage digital innovation to meet our consumers’ needs and drive efficiencies and added value across everything we do. This really is a fantastic opportunity to work with many different markets and stakeholders to develop and deliver world class digital data enhancements and shape the digital future across our R&D functions.
You’ll also:
- Collaborate with a range of functions including science, product design, manufacturing, and engineering to proactively bring data driven and digital approaches including, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Research and put in place innovative statistical models for data analysis.
- Communicate findings to stakeholders in a clear and engaging way.
- Develop knowledge across the NPTC by identifying gaps and implementing training programs & coaching.
- Keep up to date with academic, technical and industry developments.
- Proactively collaborate with data analytics/science networks across Nestlé R&D whilst developing comprehensive external networks.
- Contribute to the digitalisation strategy for NPTC Confectionery.
What will make you successful?
To be successful in this role you will be qualified to degree level or higher, in applied mathematics or related discipline. Previous experience within a Data Scientist role is an asset . We are looking for you to be passionate, proactive and result focused whilst acting as a data science ambassador for the Nestlé Confectionery brand across the globe. You’ll also:
- Have proven proficiency with data mining, data transformation, feature engineering, and statistical analysis.
- Demonstrate experience leveraging pattern recognition and predictive modelling.
- Have proven experience using a variety of data analysis methods (e.g. Excel, Tableau, SQL, Power BI), as well as programming languages/toolkits (e.g. Java, Python), cloud-based platforms, building and implementing models & algorithms including AI & ML.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate actionable insights using data to non-technical stakeholders.
- Be comfortable working in a dynamic, research-oriented group with several concurrent projects.
- Be a great team player with the ability to work with a wide range of functional teams
- Be curious to push the boundaries in this space, helping us to be world class.
