We’re looking for a Data Scientist
Fast, flexible finance empowers small businesses to manage their cash flow better and seize opportunities - making their business and the economy stronger as a whole. At iwoca, we do just that. We help businesses get the funds they need, when they need it, often within minutes. We’ve already made several billion in funding available to over 100,000 businesses since we launched in 2012, and positioned ourselves as a leading Fintech in Europe.
Our mission is to finance one million businesses. We’ll get there by continuing to make our finance ever more relevant and accessible to more businesses by combining cutting-edge technology, data science and a 5-star customer service.
The role will include
Model building:
- Launching well-designed experiments to collect data.
- Building causal models to optimise the loan offers we make to customers, based upon the collected data.
- Deploying these models into production.
- Working closely with Data Scientists in other teams, such as Credit Risk, Customer Lifetime Value, and New Applications (Signup), to understand model dependencies.
Data analytics & deriving insights:
- Building out our funnel modelling, including expected customer value models at various points in the customer journey.
- Supporting other team members with analysis of split tests, to help understand the value of UX or product adjustments.
Strategy & influence:
- Identifying hypotheses and opportunities of commercial relevance to test.
- Communicating data insights to non-technical audiences.
- Shaping the longer-term vision for using machine learning models within the team.
The team
You’ll join our Offers team. The Offers team is responsible for increasing customer and value conversion from a positive credit assessment, up until the point at which a customer takes an iwoca loan for the first time.
The team explores and launches new loan features, such as interest-only periods and longer term lengths. They also optimise other loan features, such as loan pricing and amounts, and figure out the best UX for communicating all of this to the customer on our website.
Offers is a full-stack team, consisting of a Team Lead, Software Engineers, and other Data Scientists.
Requirements:
Essential skills:
- Strong numerate background, e.g. in Mathematics, Physics, or similar.
- Background in Probability & Statistics.
- Experience with Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn, R, Matlab, and/or SQL.
- Experience using Machine Learning (ML) techniques.
- Self-starter with ability to work autonomously in an unstructured environment.
Bonus skills:
- Experience with Bayesian analysis.
We expect to pay from £50,000-£70,000 for this role. But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and regularly remunerate staff for their increasing value to our business.
At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the professional development of our team members. You'll have access to ample opportunities for skill-building, mentorship, and career progression, and can decide your career path, focusing on frontend, branching into full-stack, or developing your skills in project and people leadership.
We value thought and skill diversity, and encourage you to explore new areas of interest to help us innovate and improve our products and services.
