DESCRIPTION

Amazon seeks a results-oriented Data Scientist to own and develop forecasting models in support of the Amazon Kids+ product and subscription.

Amazon Kids+ brings together all types of content that kids and parents love including books, games, Audible books, educational apps, and videos. It provides peace of mind for parents with parental controls and a world of fun for kids to choose from thousands of the most popular titles and age-appropriate content.

A qualified candidate must have demonstrated ability to manage medium-scale modeling projects, forecasting proficiency, and the ability to continuously deliver science improvements. This candidate will have a wide range of basic quantitative skills to investigate problems quickly and identify next steps required to reach an optimal solution. The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with team members and across organizational boundaries. For this candidate, learning new tools and supporting the team and broader business are passions.

Key job responsibilities

Generating expectations for critical feature or financial performance is the core of this position. Novel modelling techniques are explored and pragmatic recommendations are made for when to pursue them relative to more conventional approaches. An ability to balance the need precision against the need for understanding forecast performance drivers on a case-by-case basis is critical for success, as is the capacity to adapt to a business with needs that change as our understanding of our customers becomes more sophisticated.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • 2+ years of data scientist experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
  • Applied experience generating model-driven business forecasts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
  • Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $111,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
