Data Scientist II
Employment Information
GEICO is seeking a driven and analytically minded mid-level Data Scientist with a strong data science foundation and demonstrated expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will be a bridge between the intricate world of data analytics and the real-world challenges of the insurance sector. You will engage in solution implementation, advanced modeling, and analytical techniques to provide critical insights and drive data-driven strategic decisions.
Essential Functions:
- Modeling: Develop and deploy statistical, machine learning, and AI models to derive insights from vast datasets, improve underwriting, predict claims, and drive other key business outcomes.
- Research & Development: Stay abreast of the latest developments in data science, incorporating new techniques and methodologies into our processes to keep us ahead in the insurance industry.
- Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Dig deep into our data to uncover trends, anomalies, and opportunities, converting these insights into actionable recommendations.
- Solution & System Design: Architect, design, and help implement data-driven systems and platforms ensuring scalability, efficiency, and robustness.
- Project Planning & Leadership: Drive data-driven projects from conception to execution. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment, efficacy, and timeliness.
- Communication: Translate complex findings into understandable insights and present them to directors, managers, and other stakeholders. Facilitate data-driven decision-making across the company.
- Software Engineering & Data Engineering: Develop and maintain efficient data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, availability, and optimization. Collaborate with platform and data engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of models into production systems.

Requirements:
A Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field and at least 3 years of relevant work experience or a PhD in these fields with at least 1 year of relevant work experience. 3+ years’ experience with and solid proficiency in machine learning techniques and predictive modeling 3+ years’ experience with and solid proficiency in a programming language such as Python, R, and SQL. 2+ years’ experience with machine learning frameworks and tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc. 1+ years’ experience with big data processing tools such as Apache Spark and snowflake 1+ years’ experience with cloud-based services such as AWS or Microsoft Azure, and exposure to deployment of AI/ML services via CICD pipelines and K8 clusters
