Job Summary
Works as part of a team to perform advanced analytics, including predictive Machine Learning (classification and regression, supervised and unsupervised modeling), inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, and qualitative analysis on large data sets that include both structured and unstructured data to develop crucial business insights and communicate those insights to the business in an understandable manner. Will deploy machine learning models (with general understanding of data engineering and Machine Learning Operations)
Essential Functions
- Works as part of a team to perform advanced analytics, including predictive Machine Learning (classification and regression, supervised and unsupervised modeling), inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, and qualitative analysis on large data sets that include both structured and unstructured data to develop crucial business insights and communicate to the business in an understandable manner
- Work as part of a team to deploy machine learning models (with general understanding of data engineering and ML Ops)
- Facilitate model building in a cloud ecosystem, from selecting features to optimizing (with general understanding of data engineering)
- Produce analysis giving insights to the business based on understanding of FedEx data & tools
- Facilitates design sessions to implement experiments to answer targeted questions and solves known issues by actively engaging with business partners to understand key business challenges.
- Facilitate discussions with IT to advance data products
- Facilitate sessions to identify internal and external information sources via data exploration and perform cleansing on the data sources.
- Fluent working with and understanding FedEx data
- Ability to present and to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Identifies internal and external information sources, builds effective working relationships with subject matter experts within FedEx and the external marketplace.
- Leads knowledge transfer and training of business intelligence to the FedEx team as a subject matter expert; strongly influences the team by developing, institutionalizing, and maintaining a data-driven analysis culture.
- May mentor more junior Data Scientists

Minimum Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Data Science or similar quantitative field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, etc.) with emphasis on Machine Learning, Predictive Analytics & Modeling and Advanced Analytics, including data cleansing and preparation. Master’s preferred.
Minimum Experience
Three (3) years relevant experience in advanced analytics, in addition to the required skills/knowledge below, or two (2) years relevant experience with proficiency in three (3) programming languages and three (3) visualization tools/packages below
Required Skills, Abilities and / or Licensure
- Proficient in at least two of the following programming languages (SQL, Python, R, Java, etc.)
- Proficient in at least two of the following visualization tools/packages (Spotfire, Tableau, Power BI, ShinyApp, Plotly, Matplotlib, Seaborn)
- Experience with relational database platforms, such as Teradata and Oracle.
- Experience with Machine Learning modeling, including scripting and Machine Learning libraries in R, Python, or similar
- Experience with Cloud platforms, including storage, querying, and advanced analytics (Azure, GCP, AWS).
- Demonstrated competency in statistics with exposure to advanced mathematical concepts (ex: linear algebra)
- Exposure to data pipelines
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, reports, and related documents
- Experience with data modeling, ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) concepts, query performance tuning and testing
- Ability to effectively present information to management, end users, co-workers, or vendors.
Other Job Description Information
This is a corporate position that is domiciled in Pittsburgh, PA. Remote locations will be considered with appropriate approvals.

Pay Range: $100,360 annually - $170,352 annually
Salary information represents the full potential base pay range associated with this job. Actual starting pay would be determined commensurate with experience and relative to pay levels at the location. An employee may also be eligible for additional pay programs, such as geographic and/or incentive pay. These programs do not apply to all jobs or all locations.
