The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our Department of Surgery's research team. Experience in epidemiology, public health, and/or statistics in clinical research is preferred.
Position summary:
The data scientist will be an integral part of the research team who manages data analysis for multiple projects, creates and maintains databases in RedCAP, and undertakes complex statistical analysis and reports and visualize results. Preference will be given to experience working in violence prevention research.
Essential job functions:
- Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, work closely with HCMC/HHRI investigators to clarify clinical research questions and data elements needed to guide data needs for research projects
- Work in conjunction with faculty mentor to determine research agenda. (5%)
- Participate in the design and implementation of research projects and lead the evaluation of research projects. (50%)
- Build and maintain datasets (15%)
- Prepare and present data for conferences. (10%)
- Author, co-author, and otherwise collaborate on reports, conference papers and journal articles. (10%)
- Prepare grant applications. (10%)
- Successfully manage relationships with external study sponsors and analysts
- Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Non-essential job functions:
- Collaborate with researchers on projects related to violence prevention
- Participate in production of academic publications
Employment standards:
Education/Experience:
Typical qualifications would be a Bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, health informatics, data science, or a related field plus 2+ years of applicable experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
Skill, Knowledge & Ability (SKA):
Requires interaction with a diverse population. Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with researchers on projects related to violence prevention and surgical research.
Minimum qualifications:
- Experience conducting analyses for clinical research or public health surveillance
- Experience with RedCAP building and reporting
- Advanced experience in transforming and analyzing data using R and/or STATA
- Understanding of advanced statistical techniques commonly used in clinical research design
- Experience with data management including cleaning raw data files, preparing datasets for analysis, and performing quality assurance
- Experience conducting power and sample size analysis and drafting statistical analysis sections for grant applications
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Experience in research design
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Display high standards of attendance, punctuality, maintains confidentiality, and manages time effectively.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior work in violence prevention research.
- Experience working in a healthcare-related setting
- Experience with GIS analysis and spatial statistics.
- Experience in qualitative analysis methodologies
- Advanced degree or 5+ years relevant experience
