Job description

Depop is looking for a talented Data Scientist to join our Applied ML team in the UK. Our team of 17 Data Scientists and MLOps engineers work at the forefront of ethical fashion understanding, leveraging cutting-edge ML techniques and technology to empower our community and enhance their experiences. We are looking for Data Scientists to join one of the following teams:

Search: Dive into the world of search technologies, primarily Elasticsearch and Learning to Rank. Optimise our search algorithms to ensure that users can effortlessly discover their perfect fashion treasures within our vast marketplace.

Recommendations: Join the team responsible for crafting our popular daily recommendations that connect our community with items they'll love. Leverage the power of data and machine learning to create personalised shopping experiences.

Sellers and Pricing: Work alongside our sellers' team to automate the listing process, making it as seamless as possible, and help them to sell the items at the right price. Build solutions to streamline and enhance the experience for our valued sellers.

As a Data Scientist at Depop you will:

  • Research, design and deliver machine learning solutions that improve the user experience
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers and analysts from your squad (team meetings, contributing to product roadmap, whiteboarding sessions, etc)
  • Optimise and maintain existing solutions to improve performance metrics and increase business impact
  • Set up and conduct large scale experiments to test hypotheses and drive product development
  • Understand requirements from relevant stakeholders across the business, translating business problems into machine learning solutions
  • Keep up to date with state of the art research with the opportunity to apply this within the product
  • Report and present technical findings to technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Python with the ability to write production-grade code
  • Solid understanding of machine learning and data science concepts, familiar working with common frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
  • Proven ability to design machine learning solutions to solve business problems
  • Collaborative and humble team player with an ability to work with cross-functional teams, including technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Passion for learning new skills and staying up-to-date with ML algorithms​​​​​​

Bonus points:

  • Experience with Databricks and PySpark
  • Experience with version control & CI/CD
  • Experience working with AWS or another cloud platform (GCP/Azure)
  • Experience with experiment design and conducting A/B tests
  • Experience working within recommendations, NLP, computer vision, pricing or search
