We are responsible to accurately report, forecast and plan all aspects of AWS business (Services, Sales and Infra). We are building a ground up outlier detection and data analytical platform that can scale to complexities of multitudes of dimension and feature sets across the entire AWS business. Our goal is to increase the adoption of machine learning across Finance to generate insights for fast decision making and influence business actions that can impact bottom line for AWS business. To do this, we are building machine learning applications which use the latest techniques for forecasting, classification, and anomaly detection purposes.
We are looking for Data Scientists with unfettered curiosity and drive to help build next generation systems generating business insights. You will have an opportunity to lead, invent, and design tech that will directly impact every customer across all AWS services. We are building industry-leading technology that cuts across a wide range of ML techniques from Natural Language Processing to Deep Learning and Generative Artificial Intelligence. You will be a key driver in taking something from an idea to an experiment to a prototype and finally to a live production system.
Key job responsibilities
- Deliver real world production systems at AWS scale.
- Work closely with the business to understand the problem space, identify the opportunities and formulate the problems.
- Use machine learning, data mining, statistical techniques, Generative AI and others to create actionable, meaningful, and scalable solutions for the business problems.
- Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of data and derive useful insights.
- Work with software engineering teams to deliver production systems with your ML models
- Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation
A day in the life
In a typical day, you will work with other data scientists, software/data engineers, and business groups across Amazon Finance. You will work with terabytes of data and develop machine learning pipelines which process billions of transactions. We partner with our customers, so you will meet with them directly to gain direct feedback on your work. Our team and customer are comfortable trying new ideas, so you will test your ideas in the real world.

Basic qualifications
- 2+ years of data scientist experience
- 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
- 3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience
- Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
- Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $111,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
