Description

Our AI Center of Excellence builds data-driven automation capabilities to support core operations at global scale. We leverage off the sciences of data, information processing, machine learning, and generative AI to improve user experience, automation, service resilience, and operational efficiency. Our work expands AI-driven capabilities of our businesses in primarily Retail and IT with global impact.

Key job responsibilities

As a Data Scientist, you map business problems to high-impact solutions leveraging off data and insights. You contribute to developing effective data processing solutions using industrial best practices. You define business relevant solutions based on analytics and data processing at scale. You support and contribute to the development of end-to-end machine learning solutions and data processing pipelines that integrate with our partners’ production systems. You dive deep into business intelligence aspects to inform our next steps in our business realm. You support the team in all aspects of the practical machine learning development cycle, encompassing sound use of data pre-processing techniques, analysis, modelling, and validation methods. You master the complex theory under the hood of machine learning and statistical analysis, and you keep up to date with the latest scientific development in information processing, analytics, modelling, and learning methods.

A day in the life

In a fast-paced innovation environment, you work together with our scientists and ML-engineers. You design data processing approaches, machine learning models, and experiments at scale. Sometimes you help developing science initiatives with long-term impact on the business. You dive deep into practically challenging data science problems, enabling ML/AI-driven automation, insights, and user experiences together with our internal partners. You work close to production to understand our customers and help out with operational excellence. You may also mentor science peers and interns. You may take part in educating our org the best practices of data science and data management.

About the team

We work back to back to address the technical challenges of automation, service resilience, and operational efficiency across a variety of products, softwares, and systems. Our scientists and machine learning engineers work in synergy to solve hard problems and enrich each other's skills. Together, we are a powerful team of specialists in EU and NA bringing the potential of practical ML and AI to the max with impact on millions of Amazon customers.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Vancouver, BC, CAN

Basic qualifications

  • 2+ years of data scientist experience
  • 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • 3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience
  • Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
  • Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company
