Overview
We are hiring a Data Scientist Manager with deep experience in developing data driven solutions and expertise in conventional and state of the art Machine Learning (ML) and AI technologies. As part of our team, you will be working side-by-side with high-impact data scientists and strategic customers to solve complex problems. You will communicate trends and innovative AI solutions to stakeholders. You will work cross-functionally with several teams including engineering crews, product teams, and program management to deploy business solutions.

The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges. We work closely with our customers’ engineers to jointly develop code for cloud-based solutions that can accelerate their organization. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud. We pride ourselves in making contributions to open source and making our platforms easier to use.
We develop solutions side-by-side with our customers through collaborative innovation to solve their challenges. This work involves the development of broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform. In this role, you will be leading data scientists and working with our customers’ teams to apply your skills, perspectives, and creativity to grow as data scientists and help solve our customers’ toughest challenges.

Responsibilities
- Deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.
- Lead data-science projects or teams to align with business needs and deliver value.
- Define and communicate the technical direction and strategy for the team and the project.
- Provide technical guidance, and suggest best practice, and drive team agreements related to best practices.
- Perform, and oversee, extensive exploratory data analysis on large and complex datasets to identify patterns, trends, and relationships, and ultimately generate high quality data and relevant hypotheses.
- Develop and apply ML/AI techniques and best practices for reliable, scalable, and ethical data driven solutions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand the specific objectives and goals of project, and aid in designing a formal way of evaluating the systems’ performance against these.
- Write, review, and debug code for complex projects and leads solution development.
- Lead data-science partnerships and IP improvement.
Qualifications
- 3+ years people-management experience.
- 10+ years customer-facing, project-delivery experience, professional services, and/or consulting experience.
- Demonstrated industry knowledge in one or more of the following sectors: Automotive, Mobility and Transportation [AMT] / Manufacturing and Supply Chain [MSC] / Energy and Sustainability [ENS] and Media and - Communications [MNC]
- Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 10+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR equivalent experience.
