Description

The EAST 2 contract is seeking a Data Scientist to support NASA’s Information, Data, & Analytics Services (IDAS) team. The team is seeking a motivated individual with a diverse background in developing models, machine learning, artificial intelligence, predictive data analytics, and incorporating advanced programming to find and analyze data. You’ll be part of a large community of data scientists across the NASA Agency and collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and data architects, as well as product owners and mission experts.

Job Description:

  • As a data scientist supporting IDAS, you’ll be responsible for collecting, analyzing and interpreting data to help drive decision making and analysis for NASA.
  • Your ability to understand and prepare data, develop analytical solutions, predictive models, and applications using various types of analytics tools for both technical and non-technical users is key and makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused solution to NASA.
  • Work with customers to provide NLP Machine Learning (ML) solutions for their specific use cases.
  • Gather customer requirements and develop solutions to meet their needs.
  • Train ML models using customer provided data.
  • Gather and prepare relevant data to use in analytics applications.
  • Integrate multiple ML technologies such as large language models, document embeddings, and link prediction algorithms to develop intelligent digital assistants.
  • Use various types of analytics tools to detect patterns, trends and relationships in data sets.
  • Develop statistical and predictive models to run against the data sets.
  • Maintain server-side Python applications and API’s running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and built on top of Apache and Flask.
  • Perform server administration tasks such as software patching, SSL implementation, platform upgrades, SSO, etc.…
  • Develop data cleansing techniques for the ingestion of a wide variety of data from various sources across the agency.
  • Maintain connections between different systems, troubleshoot issues when systems cannot pass data between each other.
  • Utilize cloud infrastructure, such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, to develop Web / REST based interfaces for ML applications.
  • Develop and maintain native Windows .Net applications integrated into Microsoft Office using Visual Studio Tools for Office.
  • Communicate / work with the agency software release team to provide updates to NASA software packages.
  • Maintain and document the processes.
  • Communicate with the management on current status and issues.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

Desired Education:

B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Software Engineering, or another relevant field.

Required Experience:

  • 2+ years of relevant data science experience.
  • Expertise in all phases of data science, from initial data discovery through data cleansing and model selection, validation and deployment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of common data warehouse and data lake structures.
  • Experience with using statistical approaches to solve analytics problems.
  • Proficiency in popular machine learning frameworks.
  • Familiarity with common data science and machine learning techniques, such as decision trees, K-nearest neighbors, naive Bayes classifiers, random forests and support vector machines.
  • Experience with techniques for both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning Based Natural Language Processing techniques.
  • Must be able to develop in R, C#, .Net, C++, Python, CSS, HTML, and Javascript.
  • Experience with developing Microsoft Office Add-ins using Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO).
  • Experience deploying and fine-tuning open-source large language models.
  • Should also have experience with working on and deploying SQL and graph databases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and / or Azure.
  • Experience with automation using scripting languages such as Bash.
  • Experience with common data wrangling tools such as Alteryx.
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration.
  • Needs to also be familiar with web technologies such as Apache and Flask.
  • Prior experience with developing web API’s
  • Experience with working with customers, gathering requirements, and proposing solutions based on those requirements. Solid collaboration, communication and business relationship skills with customers, management peers, and team members
  • Motivated, self-directed, results oriented
  • Strong planning and organization skills as role will communicate with varying levels of team members across business stakeholders, technology and management
  • Strong written, presentation, and facilitation skills

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with working on multi-disciplinary Agile teams

Clearance:

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Target salary range: $125,001 - $150,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
